As a computer scientist from a background, Safia is an executive leader and her experience spans in the Swiss pharmaceutical sector in which she’s been evolving for the last 18 years. As a proud mom of 3, she managed to grow in her career journey within the healthcare industry taking on different leadership roles in IT Governance and Digital Health innovation. She currently works as Senior Technical Program Manager at Roche, where she orchestrates the Digital Pathology program in Pharma working closely with Diagnostics. This program consists of the development of algorithms, leveraging Data and AI for personalised medicine.

Already in the early years of her career, Safia served as an advocate to promote an inclusive and supporting environment for women in STEM and worked as Diversity and Inclusion Champion for the industry. However, her vision for a more inclusive society soon grew beyond the pharmaceutical sector and her tireless efforts to bridge the gender gap led her to establish the Swiss Chapter of WomenInTech, with a group of like-minded women in 2021.

By sharing her vision for an inclusive society, Safia not only inspires numerous other women but is also able to mobilise them to achieve common goals. Thanks to her passion and advocacy she was able to rally a dedicated team of volunteers who work with her to empower women in STEM in Switzerland.

While WomenInTech Switzerland recently was awarded an internal Prize by the global WomenInTech organisation, the exceptional role that Safia has played in the establishment and growth of the Swiss Chapter has also been acknowledged with the recognition of being nominated for the Hidden Figures Award 2023 in the Non-Profit Organisation category at ‘WeTechTogether conference 2023’. Furthermore, she was nominated for the ‘Advocate of the year 2023’ from the PowerHer Awards honouring her significant contributions as a catalyst for change to promote equal opportunities for women in the innovation ecosystem.
